Sherman’s Legacy is the heart of our foundation.
This organization was born from love, loss, and the transformative power of healing after tragedy. It honors the life of Sherman, a joyful, loving, and vibrant young man whose light touched everyone around him.
Sherman was known for his infectious laugh, magnetic smile, and undeniable presence in every room he entered. He loved deeply, especially his sister Charlye and his Grandma Thelma, and carried himself with warmth, humor, and care for others. He and his mother shared a special bond through their love of sneakers, a symbol of their connection, creativity, and shared culture.
But beneath his laughter and charm, Sherman faced silent battles with depression and anxiety. Like many young people, he struggled to cope with overwhelming emotions, ultimately turning to substances that led to his tragic passing from a fentanyl overdose. His story reflects a painful reality faced by too many families, that mental health struggles often go unseen, and that one decision can change lives forever.
In the wake of his loss, Sherman’s mother embarked on her own journey of grief, healing, and recovery. Through faith, family support, and treatment, she found the strength to transform her pain into purpose. Rather than allowing tragedy to define her story, she chose to honor Sherman by educating families about mental health, addiction, and the dangers of self-medicating, while advocating for prevention, awareness, and support.
Sherman’s Stix & Kick’s Legacy Foundation is her promise to keep his spirit alive through service. His legacy lives on in every young person who gains confidence through mentorship, every family who finds support in crisis, and every community that learns the importance of mental wellness.
